Greetings from Tink World!
The rain was a nice suprise today. I checked the weather on Saturday evening to find only a 30% chance of rain for today. The 30% soon turned into 100%, as it rained all day! It turned into a great day for napping!
For most of you, the findings from a recent study about saturated fats won't be a surprise. For others that thrive on the fad diets and follow what their doctors say to a T, it might be hard to swallow. You see, satruated fats don't cause heart disease.
I realize that studies have to be taken with a grain of salt. Researchers can bend the truth and find ways to meet their agendas. So, I am always careful to trust studies. Instead, I try to find more than one place for the truth about whatever topic is at hand.
So, I’m not shocked that a scientist in the 60’s is to blame for the war on saturated fats. He chose his research suspects carefully so that he could “find” the end result that he wanted. It seems that he did this all in the name of fame.
The irony of cutting saturated fats out of your diet, according to the article, is by eating more carbs, fruits and starches, which are what could actually lead to obesity and type 2 diabetes. According to the article, “[…] fat doesn’t make you fat or diabetic.” It could be all the things you are eating that you think are healthier.
I read recently, and I apologize for not being able to find the article, that it’s important to eat whole milk yogurt. That’s because the body can’t properly absorb the nutrients, especially the vitamins, without the fat.
If you have read or are familiar with Nourishing Traditions, you know all of this already. However, if you think that animal fats are no bueno for you, I urge you to read the whole article. Yes, it’s long. But, it’s packed with information about how the U.S. has gotten so far from the truth of real foods. It’s not just processed foods that are to blame.
As for markets, Team Tink will be back at the Evans Towne Farmers Market (weather permitting). The hours are 4:30 to 7:00 p.m. We are sorry we missed you guys this past week. The weather just didn’t cooperate. Then, on Saturday, May 24, Team Tink will be at the Decatur Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Also, just a heads up, Team Tink will be attending a new market in June! The Thomson Farmer’s Market will be starting. The market is located on Journal St. and will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The best part is, this is a growers/producers only market. For now, we’ll be taking part in the market every other week.
Well, that’s all for now. Have a great week. We’ll see you at the market!
