Greetings from Tink World!
Well, we are supposed to be getting rain the next couple of days. It is much needed around here. Plus, the cool weather will be a nice bonus seeing as how it’s October and in the mid 80s.
We aren’t good about sharing pictures we take around the farm. Often times, we snap them with our phone and share them with each other and forget about adding them to Facebook or the blog. So, we wanted to share a couple of pictures with you that we took this past week.
This is Red. He is one of our bulls on Lucky7W. Here, Red stands beside a hole that he dug, and seems to be proud of, and one of his bull calves. The calf’s mom is a Pharo heifer. We are very excited to see how this guy grows out. Hopefully, with his grass based genetics, he’ll thrive.
Today, Tink and James were riding around checking cows and getting ready to move the big group of steers. When they rode out to check on the mamas and their babies, they found this guy stuck in the old plow. James was able to free the calf and thankfully it wasn’t hurt.
The strange thing is, this plow has been sitting in the field for years (I think it came with the farm when we bought it). The cows love to rub against it. So, we just left it in the field so they can have a good place to scratch. Never in a million years did we think a calf could get stuck in the plow. Now, we are thinking about pulling it from the field so that this doesn’t happen to other calves. You just never know what’s going to happen around the farm.
As for markets, Team Tink will be at the Decatur Farmers Market on Wednesday, October 9 from 4-7 p.m. Be sure to come enjoy a Tink’s BBQ Pork sandwich and grilled market veggies to help support farmer, Greg Brown. Then, on Thursday, October 10, Team Tink will be at the Evans Towne Farmers Market from 4:30-7:00 p.m. Saturday, we’ll be at the Decatur Farmers Market from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As always, feel free to email us your order. For all of you Washingtonians, don’t forget to have your order in by Thursday at 5 p.m. Then, you can pick up on Saturday from Sandy at the Washington Farmers Market!
Well, that’s all for now. Have a great week and we’ll see you at the market!
