Greetings from Tink World!
Well, it’s time for another great recipe! This time, I’m going to hit you with two.
Slow cooker pork roast with apples
3 -4 pounds of pork shoulder roast or butt
4 Tbsp mustard (either Dijon or stone ground)
2 Tbsp honey
1 tsp salt
2 tsp black pepper
3 apples, cored and thickly sliced
1/2 cup apple cider
Stir the mustard, honey, salt and pepper in a bowl. Evenly spread the mustard mixture over the entire roast and place it in the slow cooker. Then, place apple slices on top of the pork loin and pour cider over the apples. Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours. Serve.
The great thing about making this dish during the fall is that you can find the apple cider and apples can be found at the farmers market. We used the apple cider from Mercier Orchards. It would also be great to add sweet potatoes once they come in.
The great thing about using a butt is the thick layer of fat on it. The fat can then be used for other things. Tink made the recipe above and then used the fat to make biscuits. They were the best biscuits ever, very moist and dense. So, the next time you make biscuits, replace the shortening with fat (pork or beef). You won’t be sorry.
When I make biscuits, I always use the same recipe from Martha White. I now use whole wheat flour, organic shortening and raw milk, but the recipe is still great. So, follow the link for the recipe and replace the shortening with fat.
Team Tink is super busy this week. We’ll be picking up meat on Monday to stock the freezers again! Then, it’s Augusta Locally Grown deliveries on Tuesday. On Wednesday, we are back at the Decatur Farmers Market from 4-7 p.m. Team Tink will be back at the Evans Towne Market on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. We also have orders going to Athens Locally Grown on Thursday. On Friday, we are making the delivery to Nature’s Garden Delivered. Then, we end the week with the Decatur Farmers Market on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Now is the time to place order for family and value packs and to stock up on steaks. Remember, you can place an order for any market by emailing us your wish list. You can also reach Tink with questions, concerns, etc. via phone. We do try to keep normal business hours. So, if you need to reach us we are in and around the office Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday noon to 4 p.m. and we are closed for business on Sunday. Sundays are the one day that we don’t have markets or deliveries. We rest, catch up on farm chores and spend time as a family. If you need to contact us after hours, feel free to shoot us an email, email@example.com.
Thank you for your continued support! Have a great week! We’ll see you at the market!
